After this ex-post facto "raid" of Alex's home, he was incarcerated at the Dodgeville Detention Center for several weeks.
Judge Ellen K. Berz of Dane County Circuit Court ruled to vacate Alex's original charges based on the fact that the public defender at the time did not fully explain the meaning of the "plea bargain" documents that he signed. Alex's mom and dad live in Sheboygan. Alex's dad has had his legs amputated due to diabetes. Yet, he and Alex's mom had to make two trips from Sheboygan to Madison and back because the district attorney "didn't know anything about" the case the first time. Alex's parents had to pay monstrous legal fees for the hearing in Dane County. We don't know if they also had to pay the attorney for the wasted trip? --- That would be in addition to the travel expenses and difficulty. |
